Rom.1:21 21διότι γνόντες τὸν θεόν, οὐχ ὡς θεὸν ἐδόξασαν ἢ ηὐχαρίστησαν· ἀλλὰ ἐματαιώθησαν ἐν τοῖς διαλογισμοῖς αὐτῶν. καί, ἐσκοτίσθη ἡ ἀσύνετος αὐτῶν καρδία. 21 Yes , they knew {NEQ} God , but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks . And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like . As a result , their {NEQ} minds became dark and confused .
Rom.3:20 20διότι ἐξ ἔργων νόμου οὐ δικαιωθήσεται πᾶσα σὰρξ ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ· διὰ γὰρ νόμου ἐπίγνωσις ἁμαρτίας. 20 For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands . {NEQ} The law simply shows us how sinful we are .
Rom.8:7 7διότι τὸ φρόνημα τῆς σαρκὸς ἔχθρα εἰς θεόν· τῷ γὰρ νόμῳ τοῦ θεοῦ οὐχ ὑποτάσσεται, οὐδὲ γὰρ δύναται. 7 For {RPT} {RPT} the sinful nature is always hostile to God . {NEQ} It never did obey {NEQ} God’s {NEQ} laws , and it never will .

1Thes.2:8 8οὕτως ὁμειρόμενοι ὑμῶν ηὐδοκοῦμεν μεταδοῦναι ὑμῖν οὐ μόνον τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τοῦ θεοῦ ἀλλά, καί, τὰς ἑαυτῶν ψυχὰς διότι ἀγαπητοὶ ἡμῖν ἐγενήθητε. 8 {NEQ} We loved you so much that we shared with you not only {NEQ} God’s {NEQ} Good News but our own {NEQ} lives , too .

Heb.11:23 23πίστει Μωυσῆς γεννηθεὶς ἐκρύβη τρίμηνον ὑπὸ τῶν πατέρων αὐτοῦ· διότι εἶδον ἀστεῖον τὸ παιδίον, καὶ οὐκ ἐφοβήθησαν τὸ διάταγμα τοῦ βασιλέως. 23 It was by faith that Moses' {NEQ} parents {RPT} hid him for three months when he was born . {NEQ} They saw that God had given them an unusual child , and they were not afraid to disobey the {NEQ} king’s command .
Jas.4:3 3αἰτεῖτε, καὶ οὐ λαμβάνετε διότι κακῶς αἰτεῖσθε— ἵνα ἐν ταῖς ἡδοναῖς ὑμῶν δαπανήσητε. 3 And even when you ask , you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong — {NEQ} you want only what will give you {NEQ} pleasure .
1Pet.1:16 16διότι γέγραπται ὅτι, ̔Άγιοι ἔσεσθε ὅτι ἐγὼ ἅγιος. εἰμι. 16 For the Scriptures say , “ You must be holy because I am holy . ”  * 
1Pet.1:24 24διότι, Πᾶσα σὰρξ ὡς χόρτος, καὶ πᾶσα δόξα αὐτῆς ὡς ἄνθος χόρτου· ἐξηράνθη ὁ χόρτος καὶ τὸ ἄνθος ἐξέπεσεν· 24 As the Scriptures say , “ People are like grass ; {NEQ} their beauty is like a flower in the field . The grass withers and the flower fades .
1Pet.2:6 6διότι περιέχει ἐν γραφῇ, Ἰδοὺ τίθημι ἐν Σιὼν λίθον ἐκλεκτόν ἀκρογωνιαῖον ἔντιμον, καὶ ὁ πιστεύων ἐπ᾽ αὐτῷ οὐ μὴ καταισχυνθῇ. 6 As the Scriptures say , “ {NEQ} I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem ,  *  chosen for great honor , and anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced . ”  *
