Luke.2:37 37καὶ αὐτὴ χήρα ἕως ἐτῶν ὀγδοήκοντα τεσσάρων· ἣ οὐκ ἀφίστατο τοῦ ἱεροῦ νηστείαις καὶ δεήσεσιν, λατρεύουσα νύκτα καὶ ἡμέραν. 37 Then she lived as a widow to the age of eighty-four .  *  She never left the Temple but stayed there day and night , worshiping God with fasting and prayer .

The Greek-speaking believers complained about the Hebrew-speaking believers , saying that their {NEQ} widows were being discriminated against in the {RPT} daily distribution of food .
Acts.9:39 39ἀναστὰς δὲ Πέτρος συνῆλθεν αὐτοῖς· ὃν παραγενόμενον, ἀνήγαγον εἰς τὸ ὑπερῷον. καὶ παρέστησαν αὐτῷ πᾶσαι αἱ χῆραι κλαίουσαι καὶ ἐπιδεικνύμεναι χιτῶνας καὶ ἱμάτια ὅσα ἐποίει μετ᾽ αὐτῶν οὖσα ἡ Δορκάς. 39 So Peter returned with them ; {RPT} and as soon as he arrived , they took him to the upstairs room . {NEQ} The room was filled with {RPT} {NEQ} widows who were weeping and showing him the coats and other clothes {NEQ} Dorcas {RPT} had made for them .
Acts.9:41 41δοὺς δὲ αὐτῇ χεῖρα ἀνέστησεν αὐτήν· φωνήσας δὲ τοὺς ἁγίους καὶ τὰς χήρας, παρέστησεν αὐτὴν ζῶσαν. 41 {NEQ} He gave her his hand and helped her up . Then he called in the widows and all the believers , and he presented her to them alive .
1Cor.7:8 8λέγω δὲ τοῖς ἀγάμοις καὶ ταῖς χήραις— καλὸν αὐτοῖς ἐὰν μείνωσιν, ὡς κἀγώ. 8 So I say to those who aren’t married and to {NEQ} widows — it’s better {RPT} to stay unmarried , just as I am .
1Tim.5:3 3χήρας τίμα τὰς ὄντως χήρας. 3 Take care of  *  any widow who has no one else to care for her .
1Tim.5:4 4εἰ δέ τις χήρα τέκνα ἢ ἔκγονα ἔχει, μανθανέτωσαν πρῶτον τὸν ἴδιον οἶκον εὐσεβεῖν καὶ ἀμοιβὰς ἀποδιδόναι τοῖς προγόνοις· τοῦτο γάρ ἐστιν ἀπόδεκτον ἐνώπιον τοῦ θεοῦ. 4 But if she has children or grandchildren , their first responsibility is to show godliness at home and repay their parents by taking care of them . {NEQ} This is something that pleases {NEQ} God .
1Tim.5:5 5ἡ δὲ ὄντως χήρα, καὶ μεμονωμένη, ἤλπικεν ἐπὶ θεόν· καὶ προσμένει ταῖς δεήσεσιν, καὶ ταῖς προσευχαῖς νυκτὸς καὶ ἡμέρας· 5 Now a true widow , {NEQ} a woman who is truly alone in this world , has placed her hope in God . {NEQ} She prays night and day , {NEQ} asking God for his help .
1Tim.5:9 9χήρα καταλεγέσθω μὴ ἔλαττον ἐτῶν ἑξήκοντα γεγονυῖα ἑνὸς ἀνδρὸς γυνή· 9 A widow who is put on the list for support must be a woman who is at least sixty years old and was faithful to her husband .  * 
1Tim.5:11 11νεωτέρας δὲ χήρας παραιτοῦ, ὅταν γὰρ καταστρηνιάσωσιν τοῦ Χριστοῦ γαμεῖν θέλουσιν· 11 {NEQ} The younger widows should not be on the list , because their physical desires will overpower their devotion to {NEQ} Christ and they will want to remarry .
1Tim.5:16 16εἴ τις πιστὴ ἔχει χήρας, ἐπαρκείτω αὐταῖς καὶ μὴ βαρείσθω ἡ ἐκκλησία· ἵνα ταῖς ὄντως χήραις ἐπαρκέσῃ. 16 If a woman who is a believer has relatives who are widows , she must take care of them and not put the responsibility on the church . Then the church can care for the widows who are truly alone .
Jas.1:27 27θρησκεία καθαρὰ καὶ ἀμίαντος παρὰ τῷ θεῷ καὶ πατρὶ αὕτη ἐστὶν ἐπισκέπτεσθαι ὀρφανοὺς καὶ χήρας ἐν τῇ θλίψει αὐτῶν ἄσπιλον ἑαυτὸν τηρεῖν ἀπὸ τοῦ κόσμου. 27 Pure and genuine religion in the sight of {NEQ} God {NEQ} the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their {NEQ} distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you .
Rev.18:7 7ὅσα ἐδόξασεν αὑτὴν καὶ ἐστρηνίασεν, τοσοῦτον δότε αὐτῇ βασανισμὸν καὶ πένθος. ὅτι ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτῆς λέγει ὅτι, Κάθημαι βασίλισσα· καὶ χήρα οὐκ εἰμί, καὶ πένθος οὐ μὴ ἴδω· 7 {RPT} She glorified herself and lived in luxury , so match it now with {RPT} torment and sorrow . {NEQ} She boasted in her {NEQ} heart , ‘ I am queen on my throne . {NEQ} I am no helpless widow , and I have no reason to mourn . ’
