Luke 1:1

Luke 1:4

Luke 1:5

Luke 1:11

Luke 1:14

Luke 1:15

Luke 1:18

Luke 1:19

Luke 1:20

Luke 1:21

Luke 1:23

Luke 1:25

Luke 1:27

Luke 1:29

Luke 1:31

Luke 1:34

Mary asked the angel, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin.”
Luke 1:35

Luke 1:36

Luke 1:42

Luke 1:43

Luke 1:45

Luke 1:46

Luke 1:47

Luke 1:48

Luke 1:49

Luke 1:50

Luke 1:51

Luke 1:56

Luke 2:38

Luke 2:39

When Jesus' parents had fulfilled all the requirements of the law of the Lord, they returned home to Nazareth in Galilee.
Luke 2:40

When Jesus was twelve years old, they attended the festival as usual.
Luke 2:43

Luke 3:2

Luke 3:3

Luke 3:5

Luke 3:7

When the crowds came to John for baptism, he said, “You brood of snakes! Who warned you to flee the coming wrath?
Luke 3:8
οὖν therefore ποιήσατε produce καρποὺς fruit ἀξίους worthy τῆς - μετανοίας. of repentance καὶ and μὴ not ἄρξησθε do begin λέγειν to say ἐν within ἑαυτοῖς, yourselves, Πατέρα father ἔχομεν we have τὸν - Ἀβραάμ. Luke 3:9

Even now the ax of God’s judgment is poised, ready to sever the roots of the trees. Yes, every tree that does not produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown into the fire.”
Luke 3:10

Luke 3:11

John replied, “If you have two shirts, give one to the poor. If you have food, share it with those who are hungry.”
Luke 3:12

Luke 3:13

He replied, “Collect no more taxes than the government requires.”
Luke 3:14

Luke 3:15

Luke 3:16

John also publicly criticized Herod Antipas, the ruler of Galilee, for marrying Herodias, his brother’s wife, and for many other wrongs he had done.
Luke 3:20

Luke 4:1

Luke 4:2

Luke 4:3

Luke 4:4

Luke 4:5

Luke 4:7

Luke 4:10

When the devil had finished tempting Jesus, he left him until the next opportunity came.
Luke 4:14

Then Jesus returned to Galilee, filled with the Holy Spirit’s power. Reports about him spread quickly through the whole region.
Luke 4:15

He taught regularly in their synagogues and was praised by everyone.
Luke 4:16

Luke 4:19

Luke 4:20

Luke 4:22

Luke 4:23

Luke 4:24
εἶπεν he said δέ, but, Ἀμὴν truly λέγω I say ὑμῖν, to you ὅτι that οὐδεὶς no προφήτης prophet δεκτός welcome ἐστιν is ἐν in τῇ the πατρίδι hometown αὐτοῦ. of him.
But I tell you the truth, no prophet is accepted in his own hometown.
Luke 4:25

Luke 4:26
καὶ and πρὸς to οὐδεμίαν not [one] αὐτῶν of them ἐπέμφθη was sent Ἠλείας— Elijah εἰ except μὴ εἰς to Σάρεπτα, Zarephath τῆς - Σιδωνίας, of Sidon πρὸς to γυναῖκα [a] woman, χήραν. [a] widow.
Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them. He was sent instead to a foreigner — a widow of Zarephath in the land of Sidon.
Luke 4:27
καὶ and πολλοὶ many λεπροὶ lepers ἦσαν were ἐν in τῷ - Ἰσραὴλ Israel ἐπὶ during [the time of] Ἐλισαίου Elisha τοῦ the προφήτου, prophet, καὶ and οὐδεὶς not one εἰ except μὴ αὐτῶν of them ἐκαθαρίσθη— was cleansed Ναιμάν, Naaman ὁ the Σύρος. Syrian.
And many in Israel had leprosy in the time of the prophet Elisha, but the only one healed was Naaman, a Syrian.”
Luke 4:28
καὶ and ἐπλήσθησαν were filled θυμοῦ with anger πάντες all ἐν in τῇ the συναγωγῇ, synagogue, ἀκούοντες hearing ταῦτα. these things
When they heard this, the people in the synagogue were furious.
Luke 4:29

Luke 4:30
αὐτὸς he δὲ but, διελθὼν having gone μέσου [the] midst διὰ through αὐτῶν of them, ἐπορεύετο. was walking away.
but he passed right through the crowd and went on his way.
Luke 4:31
καὶ and κατῆλθεν he went down εἰς to Καφαρναούμ, Capernaum, πόλιν [a] city τῆς - Γαλιλαίας, of Galilee. καὶ and ἦν he was διδάσκων teaching αὐτοὺς them ἐν on τοῖς the σάββασιν. Sabbath.
Then Jesus went to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and taught there in the synagogue every Sabbath day.
Luke 4:32
καί, and ἐξεπλήσσοντο they were amazed ἐπὶ at τῇ the διδαχῇ teaching αὐτοῦ, of him, ὅτι because ἐν with ἐξουσίᾳ authority ἦν was ὁ the λόγος word αὐτοῦ. of him.
There, too, the people were amazed at his teaching, for he spoke with authority.
Luke 4:33

Luke 4:34
̓Έα. ah, τί what [is this] ἡμῖν to us καὶ and σοί, to you, Ἰησοῦ Jesus Ναζαρηνέ; [the] Nazarene? ἦλθες did you come ἀπολέσαι to destroy ἡμᾶς; us? οἶδά I know σε you τίς who εἶ— are, ὁ the ἅγιος Holy One τοῦ - θεοῦ. of God.
“Go away! Why are you interfering with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are — the Holy One of God!”
Luke 4:35

But Jesus reprimanded him. “Be quiet! Come out of the man,” he ordered. At that, the demon threw the man to the floor as the crowd watched; then it came out of him without hurting him further.
Luke 4:36

Luke 4:37

The news about Jesus spread through every village in the entire region.
Luke 4:38

After leaving the synagogue that day, Jesus went to Simon’s home, where he found Simon’s mother-in-law very sick with a high fever. “Please heal her,” everyone begged.
Luke 4:39

Standing at her bedside, he rebuked the fever, and it left her. And she got up at once and prepared a meal for them.
Luke 4:40

Luke 4:41

Luke 4:42

Early the next morning Jesus went out to an isolated place. The crowds searched everywhere for him, and when they finally found him, they begged him not to leave them.
Luke 4:43

Luke 4:44

Luke 5:1

One day as Jesus was preaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, great crowds pressed in on him to listen to the word of God.
Luke 5:2

Luke 5:3

“Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.”
Luke 5:6
καὶ and τοῦτο this ποιήσαντες having done συνέκλεισαν they enclosed πλῆθος multitude πολὺ [a] great, ἰχθύων of fish διερήσσετο were being torn δὲ and τὰ the δίκτυα nets αὐτῶν. of them.
And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear!
Luke 5:7

Luke 5:8

When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me — I’m such a sinful man.”
Luke 5:9

Luke 5:10
ὁμοίως likewise δὲ and καὶ also Ἰάκωβον James καὶ and Ἰωάνην, John υἱοὺς [the] sons Ζεβεδαίου, of Zebedee, οἳ who ἦσαν were κοινωνοὶ partners τῷ - Σίμωνι. with Simon. καὶ and εἶπεν said πρὸς to τὸν - Σίμωνα Simon ὁ - Ἰησοῦς, Jesus, Μὴ not φοβοῦ· do be afraid. ἀπὸ from τοῦ - νῦν now [on] ἀνθρώπους men ἔσῃ you will ζωγρῶν. catch.
His partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed. Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!”
Luke 5:11

And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.
Luke 5:12

In one of the villages, Jesus met a man with an advanced case of leprosy. When the man saw Jesus, he bowed with his face to the ground, begging to be healed. “Lord,” he said, “if you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean.”
Luke 5:13
καὶ and ἐκτείνας having stretched out τὴν the (his) χεῖρα hand, ἥψατο he touched αὐτοῦ. him λέγων, saying, Θέλω, I am willing, καθαρίσθητι. be cleansed. καὶ and εὐθέως immediately ἡ the λέπρα leprosy ἀπῆλθεν departed ἀπ᾽ from αὐτοῦ. him.
Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!” And instantly the leprosy disappeared.
Luke 5:14
καὶ and αὐτὸς he παρήγγειλεν gave orders αὐτῷ to him μηδενὶ no one εἰπεῖν. to tell, ἀλλὰ but ἀπελθὼν having departed δεῖξον show σεαυτὸν yourself τῷ to the ἱερεῖ. priest καὶ and προσένεγκε make an offering περὶ for τοῦ the καθαρισμοῦ cleansing σου of you καθὼς as προσέταξεν commanded Μωυσῆς· Moses, εἰς for μαρτύριον [a] testimony αὐτοῖς. to them.
Then Jesus instructed him not to tell anyone what had happened. He said, “Go to the priest and let him examine you. Take along the offering required in the law of Moses for those who have been healed of leprosy. This will be a public testimony that you have been cleansed.”
Luke 5:15

But despite Jesus' instructions, the report of his power spread even faster, and vast crowds came to hear him preach and to be healed of their diseases.
Luke 5:16

But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.
Luke 5:17

One day while Jesus was teaching, some Pharisees and teachers of religious law were sitting nearby. (It seemed that these men showed up from every village in all Galilee and Judea, as well as from Jerusalem.) And the Lord’s healing power was strongly with Jesus.
Luke 5:18

Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a sleeping mat. They tried to take him inside to Jesus,
Luke 5:19

Luke 5:20

Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the man, “Young man, your sins are forgiven.”
Luke 5:21
καὶ and οἱ the γραμματεῖς scribes καὶ and οἱ the Φαρισαῖοι Pharisees ἤρξαντο began διαλογίζεσθαι to reason λέγοντες, saying, Τίς who ἐστιν is οὗτος; this ὃς who λαλεῖ is speaking βλασφημίας. blasphemies? τίς who εἰ except μὴ μόνος alone δύναται is able ἁμαρτίας sins ἀφεῖναι to forgive ὁ - θεός; God?
But the Pharisees and teachers of religious law said to themselves, “Who does he think he is? That’s blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!”
Luke 5:22
ἐπιγνοὺς having known δὲ but ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus τοὺς the διαλογισμοὺς thoughts αὐτῶν, of them, ἀποκριθεὶς having answered πρὸς to εἶπεν he said αὐτούς, them, Τί why διαλογίζεσθε are you reasoning ἐν in ταῖς the καρδίαις hearts ὑμῶν; of you?
Jesus knew what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you question this in your hearts?
Luke 5:23
τί which ἐστιν is εὐκοπώτερον, easier, εἰπεῖν, to say, Ἀφέωνταί have been forgiven σοι you αἱ the ἁμαρτίαι sins σου; of you, ἢ or εἰπεῖν, to say ̓Έγειρε get up καὶ and περιπάτει; walk?
Is it easier to say ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up and walk’?
Luke 5:24

Luke 5:25

Luke 5:26

Everyone was gripped with great wonder and awe, and they praised God, exclaiming, “We have seen amazing things today!”
Luke 5:27

Luke 5:28

So Levi got up, left everything, and followed him.
Luke 5:29

Later, Levi held a banquet in his home with Jesus as the guest of honor. Many of Levi’s fellow tax collectors and other guests also ate with them.
Luke 5:30

But the Pharisees and their teachers of religious law complained bitterly to Jesus' disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with such scum?”
Luke 5:31
καὶ and ἀποκριθεὶς having answered πρὸς to ὁ - Ἰησοῦς Jesus εἶπεν said αὐτούς, them, Οὐ no χρείαν need ἔχουσιν have οἱ the ones ὑγιαίνοντες being healthy ἰατροῦ— of [a] physician ἀλλὰ but οἱ the ones κακῶς ill[ness] ἔχοντες· having.
Jesus answered them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor — sick people do.
Luke 5:32
οὐκ not ἐλήλυθα I have come καλέσαι to call δικαίους, [the] righteous ἀλλὰ but ἁμαρτωλοὺς sinners εἰς to μετάνοιαν. repentance.
I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent.”
Luke 5:33

Luke 5:34

Jesus responded, “Do wedding guests fast while celebrating with the groom? Of course not.
Luke 5:35

Luke 5:36
